Industrial Sludge Dewatering System for Stone Fabrication & Wastewater Recycling
Stone fabrication produces large volumes of abrasive sludge every day, filling settlement pits, blocking pumps, and driving up waste disposal costs. The Aardwolf Sludge Dehydrator ASDF1 provides a simple, highly reliable, and economical method of separating solid waste from wastewater, allowing valuable process water to be recycled back into your facility.
Manufactured entirely from AISI 304 stainless steel, the ASDF1 uses gravity-assisted filtration with no complex hydraulic or pneumatic moving parts, making it one of the easiest and lowest-maintenance sludge management systems available for small to medium workshops.
Key Features & Benefits
- Drastically Lower Disposal Costs: By removing excess water before disposal, the ASDF1 significantly reduces waste transport volume and handling requirements.
- Protect Valuable Machinery: Cleaner recycled water extends the service life of bridge saws, CNC centers, edge polishers, and diamond tools by reducing abrasive particle wear.
- Reduce Factory Downtime: Continuously removes sludge before excessive accumulation occurs, keeping your settlement pits cleaner and preventing production stops.
- Built for Continuous Operation: No hydraulic presses, pressure vessels, or complex control systems to break down. Gravity does the heavy lifting.
Typical Applications
Ideal for processing slurry from marble, granite, quartz, engineered stone, porcelain slab, concrete, ceramic, and terrazzo fabrication.
What’s Included in the Package
- 15 x Polypropylene filtration bags
- 4 x Plastic curtains & 2 x Stainless-steel curtain rods
- Industrial water hose & 3 x Industrial hose clamps
- Pit cleaning air stick/tool
- Optional accessory: Bag removal trolley
How it Works & Comparison
The ASDF1 is engineered for simplicity and efficiency across 5 basic steps:
- Collect: A heavy-duty submersible pump transfers liquid slurry from your dirty-water pit to the upper stainless-steel distribution tank.
- Filter: Slurry is distributed evenly into 5 independent polypropylene filtration bags that trap stone particles while letting water drain naturally.
- Recover: Filtered water collects in the lower stainless-steel tank and returns to your clean-water pit for recycling.
- Dry: When a bag is full, its individual shut-off valve is closed. The sludge continues to drain and harden, making it lighter and easier to handle.
- Dispose: The dry, hardened sludge cake is easily removed and is significantly cheaper to dispose of than liquid slurry.

Note: Dimensions for Settling Pits
There is no single “ideal” size for a sludge settling pits, as dimensions must be calculated based on the specific daily wastewater flow rate, sludge concentration, and required settling time. The sludge pit typically requires a volume equivalent to 4 hours of your peak wastewater flow.
You can use the following suggested approach to design your settling pit.
- Depth: Ensure there is a buffer zone beneath the clarification zone to hold settled solids. Allow a sludge zones of 25% of the pit’s depth.
- Assume a length-to-width ratio of 4:1.
- Assume a sludge settling time of 4 hours.
- Design appropriate inlet structures to evenly distribute the influent flow across the tank.
- Include a weir and baffle in the design of the sludge settling pit.
- Assume periodic sludge removal every 2 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How often do the filter bags need replacing?
A: Replacement frequency depends strictly on your production volume and the materials you process. High-volume shops change bags more frequently, while smaller setups get longer use out of each bag.
Q: Can the filtered water be immediately reused?
A: Yes. The water is filtered well enough to return straight to your factory recycling system. Depending on your machinery requirements, it can pass through a final polishing filter before hitting the processing equipment.
Q: Is this system effective for quartz and engineered stone?
A: Absolutely. The filtration bags are designed to trap the incredibly fine particles generated from quartz, engineered stone, porcelain, ceramics, and concrete, as well as natural granite and marble.
Q: Does it replace our factory's water settlement pits entirely?
A: The ASDF1 is designed to complement your existing water management system. It integrates into your workflow to drastically reduce mud accumulation in your pits, lowering your overall cleaning and maintenance labor.
